| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Caracalla facing right, viewed from the rear, with the paludamentum visible over the left shoulder. The imperial effigy is rendered in the characteristic provincial style of the Troad region, with bold, slightly stylized modeling of the features. The obverse legend, reading ΑΥ ΚΑΙ ΜΑΡ ΑΥΡ ΑΝΤΩΝΕΙΝΟϹ, is disposed in Greek characters around the periphery of the flan. The strike is typical of the Abydene municipal workshop, showing the irregularity common to large-module provincial bronzes of the Severan period. |
