Reverse description The emperor Septimius Severus is depicted on horseback galloping to the right, his right arm raised and brandishing a spear aimed at a kneeling captive beneath the horse's hooves, a composition conveying Roman military dominance. Beneath the horse, two shields are visible in the exergual area, adding further martial symbolism to the scene. The reverse legend, arranged around the field, names the local magistrate responsible for the coin's issue and identifies the civic authority of Hypaepa. The dynamic equestrian composition reflects the high-quality die-cutting associated with the Ephesian conventus workshops.
