Obverse description Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Philip I (Philip the Arab) facing right, depicted from the rear, rendering the paludamentum and cuirass in fine detail. The imperial effigy is presented in the characteristic three-quarter rear view common to provincial bronzes of this period, conveying both military authority and imperial dignity. A circular Greek legend runs along the border of the field, identifying the emperor by his full titulature. The flan is broad and slightly irregular, consistent with the large civic bronze coinage of Mysia. Surface shows dark brown patina with areas of earthen deposits.
