Reverse description Standing figure of the city goddess Kyzikos advancing to the left, rendered in full-length attire, holding a long spear or sceptre in her raised hand, depicted in the conventional personification style used on civic bronzes of the Mysian conventus. The figure occupies the central field of the flan, with the encircling Greek legend distributed around the periphery, naming the local magistrate and asserting the neocorate status of the city. The reverse type reflects the civic pride of Cyzicus as a twice or thrice neocorate city of Asia Minor during the reign of Gordian III. The die work, though worn, shows the fluid drapery and upright posture characteristic of third-century provincial engraving.
