Obverse description Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, depicted from behind in the three-quarter rear view characteristic of later Roman provincial coinage. The emperor's youthful features are rendered with fine detail, his laurel wreath clearly articulated above close-cropped curls. The military cuirass with shoulder straps (pteruges) is visible beneath the paludamentum (imperial cloak). The encircling Greek legend runs around the periphery of the flan.
