| Reverse description | The Emperor, dressed in military chlamys and wearing a crested helmet, is depicted mounted on a horse galloping to the left, his right arm raised and poised to thrust a spear downward at a defeated captive who reclines to the right beneath the horse's hooves, wearing a Phrygian cap — a conventional iconographic reference to an eastern or Parthian enemy. A star appears in the lower field. The encircling legend identifies Hierapolis by its coveted neocorate status, reflecting civic pride in the imperial cult. |
