| Reverse description | Frontal view of a hexastyle temple with six columns set on a stepped podium, within which stands Artemis of Ephesus (Ephesia) facing, clad in her characteristic tight wrapping and wearing a kalathos (turreted crown) upon her head. A stag is depicted on each side of the goddess, her traditional attributes. Above the temple pediment appear a crescent and a star. The multi-line Greek legend surrounding the design records the name and title of the presiding magistrate: ΕΠΙ Τ ΑΥΡ ΑΠΟΛΛΩΝΙΔΟΥ ΦΙΛΟϹΕΒ ΑΡΧ Α ΝΕΙΚΑΕΩΝ ΚΙΛΒΙΑΝΩΝ, identifying him as first archon of the Nicaeans Cilbianorum. |
