| Obverse description | Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Caracalla facing right, rendered in the provincial style characteristic of Carian civic coinage. The emperor's effigy displays the characteristic short beard of his mature portrait type, with the laurel wreath clearly articulated across the brow. The encircling Greek legend reads ΑΥ Κ ΜΑΡ ΑΥ ΑΝΤΩΝΙΝΟϹ, identifying the emperor by his imperial titulature, distributed around the periphery of the flan. The surfaces show an uneven dark patina with areas of encrustation consistent with long burial, though the portrait retains its essential sculptural volume. |
