| Reverse description | Sarapis enthroned to the left, wearing the modius (kalathos) on his head, his right arm extended outward over Cerberus, the three-headed guardian of the underworld, who crouches at his feet. The god holds a long sceptre in his left hand. The composition reflects the Alexandrian iconographic tradition of Sarapis as chthonic deity, adapted here for a Phrygian civic bronze. The reverse legend ΑΤΤΑΛΟϹ ΑΝΕ ΛΑΟΔΙΚΕΩΝ identifies the magistrate Attalos and the issuing city of the Laodiceans. |
