| Reverse description | Tyche standing left on a low base, clad in a long chiton and himation, her head surmounted by a kalathos (modius), holding a ship's rudder in her right hand and a cornucopia in her left arm. The dedicatory inscription distributed in the field and around the periphery records the benefaction of the high-priest Attalos, who dedicated this issue to the people of Laodicea. The type follows the standard civic Tyche iconography widespread in Phrygian provincial coinage of the 2nd century AD. The style is competent but shows the slightly worn execution typical of this mint's later Antonine output. |
