Reverse description Heracles depicted nude and standing in a frontal pose, his head turned to the left, in the canonical heroic stance associated with provincial bronzes of Caria. In his right hand he holds his club, and over his left arm he drapes the Nemean lion skin; his left hand extends a vase or patera above a lighted altar set before him. The composition reflects the civic pride of Heraclea Salbace, a city whose name and identity were closely bound to the Heraclean cult. The ethnic legend appears in the field or exergue, identifying the issuing community.
