| Additional information |
Heraclea Salbace was a minor Carian city whose civic coinage under Septimius Severus reflects the broader pattern of provincial mints leveraging imperial portraiture to assert local identity within the Roman administrative framework — the city fell under the conventus jurisdiction centered at Alabanda, one of the nine assizes of the Asia province. Bronze issues of this size from inland Carian centers are underrepresented in major collections, partly because the region attracted less systematic excavation than coastal Asia Minor sites.
The fabric on Carian bronzes of this weight class frequently shows uneven flan preparation.
