Obverse description Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Philip I (the Arab) facing right, presented three-quarter from the rear, with paludamentum visible at the shoulder and segmented armour detail at the neckline. The emperor's bearded portrait is rendered in the robust, realistic style characteristic of mid-third-century provincial coinage. The obverse legend runs in Greek characters around the periphery of the flan within a beaded border.
