Reverse description The reverse presents the renowned Apamean flood myth type: a rectangular chest-shaped ark floats upon stylized waves, with a male and female figure (Noah and his wife) visible within or upon the vessel, surmounted by a raven perched on the ark's lid and a dove returning with an olive branch in its beak. In the left field, two standing figures — a man and a woman — are shown stepping ashore, representing Noah and his wife after the deluge. The inscription ΝΩΕ appears on the ark itself, making this one of the most celebrated biblical references on ancient coinage. The reverse legend naming the local magistrate runs around the periphery.
