Obverse description Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Philip I (the Arab) facing right, portrayed in three-quarter rear view, with elaborately rendered paludamentum and scaled cuirass visible at the shoulder. The emperor's radiate crown is prominently depicted, conveying imperial divinity. The obverse legend encircles the bust, rendered in Greek characters identifying the emperor by his full titulature. The portrait exhibits the characteristic robust, slightly roughened style typical of provincial bronze coinage from the Conventus of Ephesus during the mid-third century.
