| Reverse description | A circular colonnaded building, interpreted as the Neokorate temple of Cyzicus, depicted with a closed gate in the facade. Three statues of Demeter, each carrying a torch, are positioned atop the roof of the structure. Flanking the building on either side stand two large torches entwined by serpents, emblematic of the chthonic and mystery cult associations of Demeter at Cyzicus. The reverse legend naming the Cyzicenes and their neokorate status encircles the architectural composition, with the distinctive Ζ rendered in the form of the Japanese katakana character エ, a well-documented regional die peculiarity of this issue. |
