| Reverse description | Tyche, the personification of fortune and city-guardian deity, is depicted seated to the left upon a throne, wearing the kalathos (modius) upon her head as a symbol of civic prosperity. She holds a ship's rudder in her right hand, denoting maritime power and guidance, and a cornucopia in her left, symbolising abundance. The multi-line Greek magistrate legend surrounding and below the figure records the name of the local strategos Dionysios and the city abbreviation ΜΥΤΙΛ (Mytilene). The reverse is heavily worn, with the legend and figure only partially legible. |
