| Reverse description | Zeus enthroned to the right, his lower body draped in a himation, his right arm extended and resting upon the throne arm, while his left hand supports a long transverse sceptre held over the left shoulder. The composition is typical of the Smyrnaean civic coinage honouring the chief Olympian deity. The magistrate's dedicatory inscription ΠΟΛΕΜΩΝ ϹΤΡΑΤΗΓΩΝ ΑΝΕΘΗΚΕ appears in the field, recording the dedication by the strategos Polemon, with the civic ethnic abbreviation ϹΜΥΡ also present in the field, identifying the issuing city of Smyrna. |
