Reverse description The reverse presents the celebrated cult statue of Aphrodite of Aphrodisias standing to the right in her characteristic xoanon form, adorned with a cylindrical polos and her elaborate draped, multi-register cult dress. Flanking the goddess are two Erotes, each perched upon a cippus and inclining a torch toward the central figure, a motif well attested in the coinage of Aphrodisias. To either side of the cult image, a seated priestess and a possible fountain or ritual vessel complete the sacred tableau. The entire composition reflects the city's profound devotion to its eponymous deity and the prestige of her celebrated sanctuary. The ethnic legend encircles the design in the field.
