Obverse description Radiate and cuirassed bust of Gordian III facing slightly left, depicted in three-quarter view from the front, with a gorgoneion embossed on the cuirass. The emperor raises his right hand in a gesture of address or salutation while holding a globe in his left hand. The encircling Greek legend reads ΑΥΤ Κ Μ ΑΝΤ ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟϹ ΑΥΓ, proclaiming his imperial titulature. The portrait reflects the provincial die-cutting style characteristic of Moesian civic coinage under Gordian III.
