Obverse description Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Caracalla facing right, depicted from behind in the three-quarter rear view characteristic of later Severan provincial coinage. The emperor's laureate wreath is rendered with fine detail, and the paludamentum and cuirass are visible over the left shoulder. The Greek imperial legend encircles the effigy along the outer border of the flan. The portrait displays the broad, youthful features associated with Caracalla's earlier numismatic representations, executed in the robust style typical of the Sardis civic mint.
