| Obverse description | Laureate bust of Emperor Trajan facing right, depicted nude with an aegis draped over the left shoulder; on some specimens the laureate wreath is adorned with ears of corn, reflecting the Alexandrian iconographic tradition of associating the emperor with Egyptian abundance. The obverse legend, rendered in Greek characters, encircles the imperial effigy and proclaims Trajan's full titulature including his epithets Optimus, Augustus, Germanicus, Dacicus, and Parthicus. |
