Obverse description Bare-headed, nude bust of Emperor Trajan facing right, adorned with a wreath incorporating ears of corn, with an aegis draped over the left shoulder. The imperial effigy is rendered in the characteristic Alexandrian provincial style, with bold, high-relief portraiture. The surrounding legend in Greek characters identifies the emperor with his full titulature. The field displays the typical broad, flat fabric of Alexandrian drachm-sized bronzes of the Trajanic period.

Reverse description The personification of Elpis (Hope) depicted as a draped female figure advancing to the left, rendered in the traditional Hellenistic manner. She raises her right hand holding a flower, while her left hand gathers her garment at the hip — a pose closely following classical iconographic conventions for this deity. The regnal date legend appears in the field, flanking the figure. The coin's heavily worn surface and irregular flan are characteristic of the later issues of Trajan's Alexandrian coinage.
