| Reverse description | A tall kalathos (basket) set atop a columnar pedestal dominates the field, flanked symmetrically by two large winged serpents rearing upward on either side. The serpents, rendered in bold relief, face inward toward the kalathos with their coiled bodies curving outward, their wings prominently displayed. This type is associated with the Agathos Daimon, the serpentine guardian deity of Alexandria, a recurring motif on Alexandrian provincial coinage. The regnal year date appears in the field in Greek numerals. The overall composition is well-centered and boldly struck for this issue. |
