| Obverse lettering | ΑΥΤ ΤΡΑΙΑΝ ϹΕΒ ΓΕΡΜ ΔΑΚΙΚ (Translation: Emperor Trajan Augustus Germanicus Dacicus) |
| Reverse description | Emperor Trajan, laureate and wearing the toga, stands upright in a quadriga drawn by four elephants advancing to the right, holding in his right hand an eagle-tipped sceptre and in his left a branch. The figure of Nike (Victory) appears above, lending divine sanction to the imperial triumph. The reverse type alludes to Trajan's Dacian victories and reflects the Egyptian mint's celebration of imperial triumph through a distinctly Roman iconographic programme. The regnal date expressed in the field provides a precise chronological anchor for this issue. |
