Obverse description Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Caracalla facing right, rendered in three-quarter rear view, a portrait convention characteristic of provincial coinage of the Severan period. The emperor's voluminous, curly hair is rendered in high relief with considerable plasticity, consistent with Caracallan portraiture. The paludamentum is visible over the left shoulder, and the cuirass is indicated at the truncation. The surrounding field retains traces of the Greek imperial legend. The flan is irregular and somewhat thick, typical of the Mytilenaean mint's output.
