Additional information

Amorium sat in the interior of Phrygia, far from the major mint cities, and its civic bronze issues under Septimius Severus reflect a local authority keen to assert municipal identity during a reign that began in civil war. Severus secured the eastern provinces only after defeating Pescennius Niger in 194 and Clodius Albinus in 197, and provincial mints across Asia Minor ramped up civic bronze production throughout this period — partly to fill gaps left by the disruption to central coinage supply.

The Conventus of Synnada administered this region, with Synnada serving as the judicial and administrative center to which Amorium was subordinate. V.2#249 is among the larger civic bronzes attributed to this mint.
