| Obverse description | Laureate bust of Emperor Marcus Aurelius facing right, depicted with a long beard, draped in paludamentum over cuirass, presented from a frontal-centre perspective. The portrait conveys the mature, philosophical character associated with Aurelius's later reign. A partially preserved Greek legend runs along the periphery of the flan, reading ΑΥ Κ Μ ΑΥ ΑΝΤΩ[ with the remainder lost to a broken edge. The die work reflects the provincial Greek Imperial tradition of the Lydian conventus, with bold if somewhat provincial modelling of the imperial effigy. |
