| Reverse description | Two emperors, Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus, standing facing one another in togate dress, clasping right hands (dextrarum iunctio) over a central tripod, symbolising their joint rule and concordia. The scene of two co-emperors clasping hands over a ritual tripod is a powerful emblem of imperial harmony and religious sanction. The reverse legend, disposed around the field in Greek characters, records the name of the local magistrate (strategos) Claudius Hestiaeus and the neokorate title of the Cyzicene people. The composition is typical of civic bronze coinage struck in Mysia under the joint reign. |
