| Obverse description | Bare head of Antinous facing left, rendered with youthful idealized features and flowing curly locks cascading to the neck, in the Hellenistic portrait tradition. The effigy displays the characteristic full lips, heavy-lidded eyes, and thick wavy hair associated with representations of Hadrian's deified favourite. A partially preserved Greek legend runs along the outer border, identifying the subject as Antinous the hero before the gate, as honoured by the Amphictyons. |
