Reverse description A sphinx is depicted seated to the left, its wings elegantly raised and spread behind its leonine body, with one forepaw resting upon a spoked wheel — a motif associated with Fortune and Fate in Alexandrian iconography. The figure is rendered with considerable detail, including the human head with a distinctive headdress. The regnal year date L ΙΗ (year 18) appears in the field, flanking the sphinx. A ground line is present beneath the figure, and the overall composition is characteristic of the fine allegorical reverse types produced at Alexandria under Hadrian.
