Reverse description Two Canopic jars (Canopi) of Osiris depicted facing one another, their characteristic human-headed lids visible above bulbous bodies, resting upon a shared rectangular basis or low platform. The Canopi, sacred vessels of Egyptian funerary cult, are rendered with the rounded forms typical of Alexandrian provincial bronzes. The regnal date legend L Δ (year 4) appears in the field, associating the type with the Egyptian religious iconography favoured under Hadrian's philhellenic and Egyptophile patronage.
