| Obverse description | Bare-headed, laureate and bearded bust of the emperor Hadrian facing right, with finely rendered wavy hair and short beard characteristic of his portraiture. The effigy is depicted with a draped shoulder, displaying the idealized yet realistic style typical of provincial Greek coinage of the second century AD. The encircling Greek legend reads ΑΥΤ ΚΑΙϹ ΤΡΑΙ ΑΔΡΙΑΝΟϹ ϹΕΒΑ, identifying the emperor as Autocrator Caesar Trajan Hadrian Augustus. The portrait fills the obverse field with strong relief, consistent with the high-quality die work associated with Bithynian provincial issues. |
