| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, depicted from the rear in the three-quarter view characteristic of later Roman provincial issues. The imperial effigy displays the paludamentum fastened at the shoulder and the cuirass in typical military presentation. The Greek legend is disposed around the periphery of the field, identifying the emperor by his full titulature. The flan is irregular and the surfaces show heavy patination consistent with a circulated provincial bronze. |
