Obverse description Laureate, cuirassed bust of Emperor Commodus with short beard, draped in paludamentum, facing right, viewed from the front. The imperial titulature appears in Greek legend surrounding the effigy. The portrait exhibits the characteristic youthful features of Commodus in the early years of his reign, rendered in the high-relief provincial die-cutting style typical of Pergamene coinage.

Reverse description Asclepius, the god of medicine, stands facing at left, his head turned to the right, holding his serpent-entwined staff (caduceus); at his feet rests the omphalos. To the right stands the cult statue of Artemis of Ephesus (Ephesia) in the canonical frontal attitude, wearing the kalathos (cylindrical crown) on her head and flanked by lateral supports, rendered in the stiff, iconic manner befitting her celebrated cult image. The composition reflects the dual honorific dedication to both Pergamum and Ephesus (ΚΟΙΝΟΝ ΠΕΡΓΑΜΗΝΩΝ Κ ΕΦΕ(Ϲ(Ι))), emphasizing the neocorate rivalry and shared provincial prestige of the two cities under the strategia of P. Aius Pius.
