Reverse description Multi-line Greek inscription set within an olive or laurel wreath, referencing the proconsul Mindios Balbos and the metropolis of Nicomedia. The legend, arranged in five or six horizontal lines across the field, reads ΕΠΙ ΜΙΝΔΙΟΥ ΒΑΛΒΟΥ ΑΝΘΥΠΑΤΟΥ ΜΗΤΡΟΠΟΛΕΩΣ ΝΚΟ, with the abbreviated city name NKO at the lower portion of the inscription. The wreath is tied at the base with a decorative knot or taenia. This reverse type is a classic honorific civic issue attributing the coin's production to the authority of the Roman proconsul governing Bithynia-Pontus. The overall composition is bold and legible, consistent with large civic bronzes struck at Nicomedia under Claudius.
