| Reverse description | The reclining figure of Nilus is depicted leaning left, his body draped in classical fashion, holding a tall reed in one hand and a cornucopia in the other, from which emerges a small Genius figure bearing a wreath. A crocodile or sphinx is positioned beside the god, serving as his traditional attribute. Above the scene, the regnal year numeral ΙϚ appears in the field, while water plants are rendered in the lower exergue, evoking the fertile inundation of the Nile. The composition reflects the rich allegorical iconography of Alexandrian civic coinage celebrating the prosperity of Egypt. |
