Obverse description Laureate, cuirassed and paludamentum-draped bust of Emperor Antoninus Pius facing right, depicted from the centre or rear in the Alexandrian convention. The obverse legend, rendered in Greek characters, encircles the imperial effigy and identifies the ruler by his full titulature. The portrait displays the characteristic bearded, mature features associated with Antoninus Pius as rendered by Alexandrian engravers of the mid-second century AD.
