| Reverse description | An octastyle temple, rendered in elevation with eight columns, encloses a cult statue of Artemis Ephesia standing facing, wearing the kalathos (cylindrical crown) and flanked by supports in the characteristic Ephesian style. The pediment is adorned with two Nikai supporting a globe, and two doors are depicted within the architectural frame. The legend ΕΦΕϹΙΩΝ ΔΙϹ ΝΕΩΚΟΡΩΝ, proclaiming Ephesus as twice temple-warden (neokoros) of the imperial cult, appears in the field. This reverse type celebrates the civic and religious prestige of Ephesus as a leading metropolis of Roman Asia. |
