Reverse description Standing cult image of Kore (Persephone) depicted facing, turned slightly left, rendered in the hieratic style associated with the sacred effigy venerated at Sardis. To the right, Demeter stands left, holding ears of grain and a torch, attributes emblematic of her role as goddess of the harvest and mysteries. The composition reflects the religious significance of the Eleusinian deities within the context of Sardis as a thrice-neocorate city. A Greek legend in the field and around the periphery records the name of the presiding asiarch and the civic honors of the Sardians.
