Additional information

Year 18 of Trajan's reign corresponds to 114–115 AD, the period immediately preceding his Parthian campaign — one of the most ambitious military undertakings in Roman imperial history. Alexandrian bronze issues of this regnal year were struck under the prefect of Egypt, a province whose mint operated on an entirely closed currency system, meaning these coins circulated only within Egypt and were demonetized at face value upon exchange for Roman currency entering the province.
