| Reverse description | Emperor Trajan, laureate and togate, standing upright in a quadriga drawn by four elephants advancing to the right, holding an eagle-tipped sceptre in one hand and a branch in the other. Above the scene, a flying Nike figure crowns or accompanies the imperial procession, lending a triumphal character to the composition. The regnal year date appears in the field in Greek numerals. The reverse type celebrates Trajan's military triumphs and reflects the Alexandrian mint's adaptation of imperial Roman iconography. |
