Reverse description Dionysus standing facing with head turned to the left, his nude or lightly draped figure rendered in the Hellenistic tradition. In his right hand he holds a long thyrsus, the characteristic attribute of the god, while his left hand extends a cantharus over a small altar placed at his feet. The composition reflects the strong Dionysiac cult tradition at Amisus, a theme frequently employed on the city's autonomous and imperial bronze coinage. The reverse legend, disposed around the field, identifies the issuing city and records the civic era date ϹΝΓ (year 253 of the Pontic era, corresponding to 221–222 CE).
