| Reverse description | Two deities depicted in full standing figure within the field: to the left, nude Heracles stands facing, his right arm resting upon his club draped with the Nemean lion skin, while a small winged Nike hovers to his upper right, extending a wreath to crown him; to the right, Dionysus stands facing left, holding a cantharus in his outstretched hand and a long thyrsus or sceptre, with a panther crouching at his feet. The reverse legend names the local magistrate and civic authority under whose auspices the coinage was struck. The composition reflects the syncretic religious imagery characteristic of Carian provincial bronzes of the Severan era. |
