| Obverse description | Confronted busts: laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Caracalla facing right, seen from the rear, jugate with the draped bust of Plautilla facing left. The legend encircling the field reads ΑΥ Κ Μ Α ΑΝΤΩΝΙΝΟϹ ΦΟΥΡΒΙΑ ΠΛΑΥΤΙΛΛΑ, identifying the two imperial figures. The jugate presentation of the co-principals is characteristic of the provincial coinage struck during the reign of Septimius Severus. The rendering exhibits the bold, somewhat provincial style typical of Carian mint workshops of the early third century AD. |
