| Additional information |
Germe was a minor Mysian city whose civic coinage depended entirely on the tenure of local magistrates — the ΕΠΙ ΑΠΟΛΛΩΝΙΔΟΥ formula names Apollonides as the presiding archon, one of the few mechanisms by which small poleis under Roman administration asserted any meaningful role in their own monetary affairs. Gordian III's reign produced a surge in provincial bronze output across the Pergamene conventus, partly driven by the emperor's eastern campaigns against Shapur I, which increased demand for small-denomination exchange in garrison and supply towns.
Germe's output under Gordian is sparse. This piece references VII.1#103, placing it within a tightly documented but numerically thin corpus.
