Reverse description A dynastic meeting scene typical of Edessan coinage: the Roman emperor Gordian III, laureate, is depicted seated right on a raised platform or tribunal, holding a sceptre surmounted by an eagle. Before him stands Abgar X of Edessa, facing left, wearing the distinctive Parthian-style tiara and royal robes, extending his right hand in a gesture of allegiance while holding a Nike figure and a sword. The bilateral legend identifies both rulers and underscores the political alliance between Rome and the kingdom of Osrhoene. The composition is a rare and historically significant representation of Roman-Parthian diplomacy rendered in provincial bronze coinage.
