| Obverse description | Laureate head of the emperor Caracalla facing right, rendered in the bold, slightly provincial style characteristic of Alexandrian civic coinage. The laureate wreath is visible atop the head, with facial features conveying the emperor's characteristic strong jaw and short beard. A continuous Greek legend surrounds the portrait in the field. The flan is irregular and the surfaces show heavy green patination consistent with prolonged burial. |
