| Reverse description | Asclepius, the god of medicine, is depicted seated in three-quarter view to the left upon a high-backed throne, holding his characteristic knotted serpent-staff (caduceus) upright in his left hand while extending his right hand toward a serpent rearing before him. The composition is typical of Carian provincial iconography honouring healing deities. The ethnic legend ΗΡΑΚΛΕΩΤΩΝ appears in the field, identifying the issuing city of Heraclea Salbace. The reverse field and exergue show wear consistent with circulation. |
