Obverse description Laureate and cuirassed bust of Emperor Valerian I facing left, depicted with spear and shield, the shield seen from the rear in a three-quarter perspective. The obverse legend encircles the imperial effigy in Greek characters, reading Α Κ Π ΛΙΚ ΟΥΑΛΕΡΙΑΝΟϹ, identifying the emperor by his full titulature as Caesar Publius Licinius Valerianus. The portrait is rendered in the provincial style characteristic of Asia Minor civic coinage of the mid-third century AD.
